Tuesday 8th May  DCFA Womens County Cup Final

          Durham Wildcats 0 - 1 South Durham and Cestria Ladies.

The 2011/12 final was played at Norton and Ancients ground, on an excellent playing surface.
For the second year running a team from the County league, Durham Wildcats, reached the final to play South Durham and Cestria Ladies.
Wildcats started the better with some quick 1-2 touch passing football but gradually SDC came to terms with the Wildcats energetic and composed style of play and got into the game. On 36 minutes a Tracey Swales through ball to Becky Hanratty saw the midfielder’s shot beat the keeper to give SDC the half time advantage.
SDC started the second half in a much more positive fashion and created a number of chances with Nicky Duckling’s pace and strength being a constant threat to the Wildcats.  With SDC failing to increase their lead and time running out Wildcats threw everything at the SDC defence and on 79 minutes they thought their hard work had paid off when the assistant referee awarded them a penalty only to see the resultant kick strike the post.
In the final minutes they again thought they had got their equaliser from a corner only to see the ball headed off the line by SDC captain Kim O’Connor.
Lady of the Match was awarded to the whole team:-

A special mention for Jenni Duffy who has been an important member of the squad all season and joined the army the day before the final was played. Good luck and thank you Jenni.
